SkoolPing ("we", "our", "the app") is a school communication platform that connects schools, teachers, parents and students. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it plain-English on purpose.
1. Who runs SkoolPing
SkoolPing is operated from India. For any privacy question, write to hello@skoolping.com.
2. What we collect
Account information
- Name, phone number, role (parent / teacher / admin / student)
- Email address (optional)
- Encrypted PIN used to log in
- Profile photo (optional)
- Link to your school and class (added by your school admin)
Content you create in the app
- Chat messages, voice notes and attachments you send
- Homework, announcements, timetable entries and attendance records posted by teachers
- Fee payment records
Automatically collected
- Device identifier used only to deliver push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging token)
- Crash logs and basic diagnostic data to fix bugs
- Basic usage events (e.g. "opened attendance", "sent chat") — no advertising profile is built
3. What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your precise location.
- We do not read your contacts, SMS, call log or files outside the app.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not show ads and we do not use advertising SDKs.
4. How we use your information
- To let your school run the app: mark attendance, share homework, send announcements, chat, collect fees.
- To send push notifications for events relevant to you or your child.
- To keep the service secure — detect abuse, fraud and misuse.
- To improve the app based on aggregated, non-personal usage data.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. Ever. We share limited data only with the following processors, purely to run the service:
- Neon (Postgres database hosting) — stores account and app content.
- Cloudflare R2 (object storage) — stores media you upload (voice notes, images).
- Render (application hosting) — runs the SkoolPing API.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivers push notifications.
All of the above process data on our instruction under standard data-processing terms. We may also disclose data if legally compelled by a valid Indian court order.
6. Where data is stored
Primary storage is in cloud regions serving India and Asia. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher. Backups are retained for up to 30 days.
7. How long we keep data
- Active accounts — for as long as your school subscribes to SkoolPing.
- Chat messages — for the duration of the school year, then archived; you can delete individual messages any time.
- Deleted accounts — purged from primary systems within 30 days, from backups within 90 days.
8. Your rights
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — edit your profile in-app, or ask your school admin.
- Deletion — request full account deletion at skoolping.com/data-deletion or in-app under Profile → Delete account.
- Withdraw consent — stop using the app at any time; ask us to delete your data.
To exercise any of these, write to hello@skoolping.com. We respond within 7 business days.
9. Children's data
SkoolPing is a service used by schools. Data about students under 18 is provided and controlled by the school that has enrolled them. Parents have full visibility into and control over their child's data through their parent account. We do not target advertising to any user, adult or child. If you believe a child's data has been added without appropriate consent, contact us and we will remove it.
10. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures — HTTPS everywhere, encrypted PINs (bcrypt), least-privilege database access, off-site encrypted backups, and audit logging of sensitive admin actions. No online service can be 100% secure, but we take this seriously and respond quickly to any incident.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified in-app. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
