Principals

How can a school principal track everything without micromanaging teachers?

There's a real tension in running a school: principals are accountable for everything that happens in every classroom, but teachers do their best work when they're trusted, not watched. Walking into classrooms to check registers, or calling teachers to confirm homework went out, solves the visibility problem and creates a morale problem. The fix isn't more checking โ€” it's better records.

Track the record, not the person

The goal isn't to know what a teacher is doing right now โ€” it's to know that the school's core activities (attendance, homework, results) are happening reliably. A dashboard that shows completion status โ€” who's marked attendance today, who hasn't, by what time โ€” answers the real question without a single phone call.

Set a visible standard, once

Instead of individually reminding teachers to submit attendance by 9 AM, set that as the system standard and let a simple, non-judgmental reminder handle the follow-up. This removes the principal from the role of daily enforcer.

Use exceptions, not surveillance

A principal doesn't need to review every attendance entry or every homework post. They need to see the exceptions โ€” the class where attendance wasn't marked, the week homework wasn't posted โ€” and only step in there. That's a handful of cases a week, not a hundred.

Let parents be part of the check

When parents see attendance and homework updates directly, discrepancies surface naturally โ€” a parent will mention if nothing was posted for a week. This is a healthier feedback loop than a principal auditing every classroom.

Make the data trustworthy, not punitive

Teachers cooperate with tracking that helps them (fewer repeat parent calls, less paperwork) far more readily than tracking that feels like a performance review. Frame the system as reducing their workload first, and reporting second.

The best kind of oversight is the kind a teacher barely notices โ€” because the system is doing the reporting, not the principal.

SkoolPing's completion dashboards give principals exactly this โ€” attendance, homework and results visibility at a glance, with nothing that requires teachers to be checked up on individually.
